About Podiatry
A
D.P.M, Doctor of Podiatric Medicine
is a highly trained specialist in the care of feet.
Podiatrists are one of only 8 primary care professions
authorized by Ontario law to communicate a diagnosis to
patients and are concerned with the examination, diagnosis
and prevention of foot disorders by palliative, surgical and
orthotic means of treatment as
defined by our scope of practice. To become a podiatrist, a
four year under-graduate degree followed by a four year
post-graduate degree is first required to be eligible to
write the PM Lexus (national board) exams. Then a two year
residency is required. Podiatrists can specialize in foot
surgery, biomechanics and orthopedics,
sports medicine, and diabetic and general patient care.
Podiatrists often work with other healthcare professionals
consulting and treating foot problems in children, adults
and seniors. Podiatrists are licensed to take x-rays and to
prescribe specific oral and all topical medications. No
referral is required, so arrange your appointment today!

Suffering from
heel pain,
especially first thing in the morning or after rising from
rest? Hoping the pain will go away? It usually doesn’t. Our
centres offer the latest surgical treatments to alleviate
heel pain, including endoscopic
plantar fasciotomy, introduced
in Canada by Robert Chelin in 1993. Robert is also the
co-founder of the Heel Pain Institute. In 2001, he was one
of the Canadian pioneers to introduce the latest
non-surgical treatment for heel pain;
Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy, also known as ESWT. This
non-invasive treatment for chronic heel pain and heel spurs
is now available at our centres.
As
we age and as our activity level increases, it’s not uncommon to
find that pain can occur in the balls of our feet. This is
especially true of woman in high heels and ill fitting
footwear. Robert Chelin, Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, has
recently introduced the latest frontier in collagen forming
injections into the balls of the foot to the Canadian public on
the nationally televised show Cosmetic Innovations. By injecting
these products into the ball of the foot or areas where there is
boney irritation, we’re able to reduce the pain and callusing
formation. Thanks to the collaboration of Prollenium
(pro-len-ee-um)
Technologies and their introduction of Redexis.
Robert has been able to replace
what nature has taken away. This procedure is
performed in the comfort of our office using local
anaesthesia.
Robert refers to it as the “Foot Lift”. For more information,

Hyperpronation
is a structural deformity of excessive movement of the ankle
bone on the heel bone resulting in the flattening or
lowering of the arch. This abnormal motion may result in
foot, ankle, leg, hip, pelvis, back, neck and shoulder pain.
Robert Chelin DPM is the first Canadian trained and
certified Master Surgeon in the implantation of the
hyprocure titanium implant (Stent)
at the Graham International Implant Institute. This
revolutionary procedure can be performed in office under
local anaesthesia and the results are instant. Robert refers
to this procedure as the
internal orthotic
and feels it may eventually lead to the replacement of
orthotics
(when indicated),
similar to how laser eye surgery has replaced eyeglasses.
